Centennial Olympic Park’s Wednesday WindDown Kicks Off 10th Anniversary Season Tonight!

Last September, nine years of free entertainment, four bands, two marriage proposals and one fantastic night of music brought the 2006 Wednesday WindDown season to a close. It is time to get ready again for 26 weeks of entertainment by a variety of top local and national performing artists. Join us at Centennial Olympic Park as Atlanta’s longest running free concert series celebrates its 10th Anniversary.

Not only is Wednesday WindDown commemorating a decade of entertaining Atlantans, but for the first time in years, the family-friendly, free concert series has a different radio partner every Wednesday of the month. This should make for an exciting, diverse line up of artists for the season. The Park welcomes returning partners KISS 104.1FM, WCLK 91.9FM and Rainmakers Inc., as well as new radio partners 107.5 WJZZFM and WAMJ 102.5FM. AirTran also returns as the title sponsor of the series. Look forward to even more spectacular performances as we kick off the spring season, and then watch things really heat up this summer.

Headlining the season opener is electric jazz violinist and local favorite Ken Ford. Ford is known not just for his soulful, funky sound, but also for his unique, passionate and lively stage presence. His recent recording debut, Burnt Toast, was a chart-topper. Also performing is Brian Clay and Kompani, who have captivated audiences with their special blend of smooth grooves and urban rhythms overlaid by inspirational vocal arrangements.

Wednesday WindDown concerts are every Wednesday from April through September at 5:30 p.m. in the Southern Company Amphitheater. Please remember that no alcoholic beverages or glass containers may be brought into the park. Food and drinks are available for purchase from vendors around the Amphitheater and at the FountainSide Cafe, located in the Park’s Visitor Center. A lasting legacy of the 1996 Atlanta Olympics, Centennial Olympic Park has become a performing-arts venue, community gathering-space and an anchor for downtown development. The Georgia World Congress Center Authority operates the 21-acre Park, as well as the Georgia Dome and Georgia World Congress Center. The three state-owned facilities are one of the largest combined sports, entertainment and convention center facilities in the world.
